Rude Effex Fight Team is AKKA’s Mixed Martial
Arts fight team. We take pride in offering a well rounded
mma program employing specialized training in Brazilian
jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, and Western boxing. Intertwine this
intensive training with full body conditioning workouts, and you
have a workout unlike any other. Whether you're looking
for specialized competition training, or just looking to put a
shock into your system, our mma program will wake you up.
Jiu Jitsu
  
Rude Effex and
AKKA’s Mixed Martial Arts program is proud to have
Colorado Fight Factory’s Taryn Douglas overseeing
our Brazilian jiu-jitsu training. Taryn is a
certified Black Belt under world champion Carlos
Machado. Taryn’s curriculum enables you to
understand and apply effective jiu-jitsu concepts.
His instruction is clear, concise, and direct.
He constantly keeps our fighters improving in their
personal ground game. When you’re learning proper
movement and technique in a professional and safe
atmosphere, you will be amazed at how fast you start
to improve.
   
Boxing
   
Our stand-up skills are brought
to the test with our new boxing coach, Eppie Duran. Mr.
Duran has been involved in boxing for over 25 years. Mr.
Duran is a former USA BOXING HEAD COACH and has trained and
worked with boxing greats like Roy Jones Jr., Freddie Roach,
Lennox Lewis, just to name a few. He has trained and molded some
of the best boxers in our area, including MARVIN "MUCH TOO MUCH"
CORDOVA JR. Marvin truly is one of the best at 21-1 as a pro
boxer. Marvin also comes in to help our skills with great
sparring sessions. While Mr. Duran brings his own
flavor and curriculum to AKKA, we find his principles and values
are aligned with ours. With our goals and ideals congruent, we
are creating winners, in and out of the cage.
   
Kickboxing
   
Rude Effex’s
kickboxing is lead by Santiago Barela. AKKA’s
35 year involvement in the sport of full-contact
kickboxing was an obvious part of his martial
training, coming up through the ranks. His
connection with AKKA has enabled him to work with
kickboxing greats such as Bill Packer, Mike
Winklejohn, Fernando Calleros, Ben Acosta, and Ed
Bame. This experience gives Pueblo’s Rude
Effex fighters that added edge to their stand-up
game.
Jeremy Garcia is
the Head Coach and Manager of Rude Effex Fight Team.
His involvement in Muay Thai Kickboxing began his
passion for mixed martial arts. Starting in 1992,
Jeremy committed himself to training muay thai as a
thai fighter between 1996 and 1998 at Tee’s Gym
(later bought by Paul Orndorff) in Las Vegas,
Nevada. 1998 marked a shift more towards mma
for Mr. Garcia. While making a comeback in
2002 and ’03, a knee injury sustained in 1998 forced
him into retirement.
After seeing an
absence of mma instruction, Jeremy found himself
being sought out to train some early,
local, independent mma fighters. After developing a
loose following of dedicated fighters in 2003,
Jeremy committed himself and his fighters to a
dedicated MMA fight team, Rude Effex, in 2005. In
2007, Jeremy and Santiago joined their efforts to
offer a powerful collaboration to the Pueblo MMA
community, when AKKA became the home to Team Rude
Effex. Currently, Rude Effex has a record of
over 50 wins with 10 of these victories being title
bouts in 5 different weight classes. Together
Jeremy & Santiago continually strive to improve Rude
Effex, the fighters, and their training. We
recognize the need for specialized experts. We
want our fighters to train and learn from the
field’s best, so they can be their best. We’ve been
honored to host seminars and workshops from MMA
greats like Dave Ginsberg, Cameron Dollar, Jeff
Glover, just to name a few.
